A project for a gloomy day. Still life photographers work in many different ways to record the beauty of flowers. They often use sophisticated equipment but you can also achieve fantastic results with just a table lamp.
These peonies were photographed on the kitchen table. Keep the background simple. You can use dark material to achieve a more dramatic effect or rich velvet to add a feeling of luxury.
Colour temperature changes with a table lamp. Your pictures will be much warmer when lit by a household bulb. You can correct this in your camera - by setting a tungsten whiet balance - or in post produxction if you use editing software. Or you can keep it warm

Nick Knight Roses
Knight photographs roses cut from his own garden on his iPhone and then runs the images through AI technology Knight’s is a distinctly modern approach to photographing roses. The ongoing series sees the photographer make use of novel AI technology to “fill in the gaps” in his series, resulting in what AnOther’s Alexander Fury described as an “unreal, surreal look” to the images. “If you look closely, you can see weird, slightly glitchy things,” according to Knight. “When you get close, the texture is quite new. If you were looking at an old master, you’d get brushstrokes. If you were looking at a photograph you’d get grain. This is a new thing, a new visual language.” Belle Hutton - AnOther. Jan 2020
