Think about the Light
A bright kitchen. Morning light is perfect 

Angles 
Professional food shots are often taken from above - looking straight down onto the plate or bowl. If you shoot from above you don't have to clean the whole kitchen. 

Think about the backround 
If you have a nice wooden table that's brilliant - if not use a clean table cloth or zoom in to hide the background completely 

Fill the frame.
​Zoom in a little if you need to. 
Take more than one picture and review them to make sure the best one is sharp. 

Technique
Think about Shutter Priority and a shutter speed of 1/100th sec. 
Do not use flash and be careful if you shoot in Program mode that the shutter speed doesn't drop dangerously low.
